Who We Serve

Who We Serve

We serve individuals, families, and businesses whose financial situation has grown in complexity, and who may be feeling overwhelmed when it comes to learning all that is needed to properly plan and manage their financial life. They typically lead busy lives, are financially responsible, and care deeply about making smart financial decision for their families, or their employees and business.

Retirees

We serve many folks from different walks of life that have worked hard and are now looking to transition to their retirement years, as well as those already in retirement who are looking for a higher level of service and a more coordinated approach to their financial matters.

Individuals who range from age 55 through 80 are the largest represented demographic in our clientele, a generation that Grant has personally always had a passion for serving.

Common areas addressed: Designing financial plan and investment strategy to prevent outliving income. Planning for tax efficient income streams, social security, long-term care, required minimum distributions, gifting, and transferring wealth.

Businesses

We serve small to medium sized businesses. We typically partner with the business owner to help coordinate a financial strategy between their personal and business life, and develop a strategy for important issues such as taxes, wealth creation, employees, and succession.

Common areas addressed: Determining proper business continuation plans in the event of a loss of partner, and unique programs to reduce losses due to taxes and create wealth for owners and key executives. Solutions to reward and retain key employees. Determining how an exit of the business will work to ensure ‘post-exit’ financial freedom for the owner.

Professionals

Professional service providers and C-level or senior executives within corporations. We serve many tech professionals at Microsoft, Tableau, Expedia, Twitter, and more and other professionals such as Doctors, CEOs, and high-performing sales executives. These individuals are juggling the many priorities in their life, such as getting the kids through school and college while still building their retirement, balancing their family and friends, or building their career while the financial front is growing ever so complex—they are often looking for a coordinated strategy to ensure they are not missing anything, and are wanting to make life a little more simple.

Common areas addressed: Coordinating a comprehensive plan to ensure dollars are going to the right priorities in the right amounts—college, real estate, retirement, and planning for the what-if’s of life, such as a loss of a spouse or loss of ability to work through proper life and disability insurance plans. Creating and implementing a tax strategy, including executive comp plans and stock options to synergize with a proper investment strategy.

High Net Worth Families

We act as a personal CFO to high net worth families, providing financial coordination for the financial affairs of the family across generations. Financial planning for these families must provide mindful and strategic coordination to meet their many priorities, such as maintaining proper investment strategies to preserve wealth and income for the 1st generation, or meeting the gifting and charitable desires they have for the 2nd and 3rd generation. Many of these families want to balance their personal income needs with the enjoyment of giving during their lifetime, while still planning for a wealth transfer to the next generation that reduces loss to taxes and leaves behind a legacy they are proud of.

Common areas addressed: Custom institutional-level wealth management strategies to meet specific plan needs, lifetime gifting plans, and tax efficient wealth transfer and trust solutions to coordinate with estate plans. Advanced life insurance solutions to create tax efficiency, as well as wealth and liquidity for estate planning goals—charitable, estate equalization, and legacy.

Alaska Airline Pilots
Served by McMartin & Monson

McMartin & Monson specializes in serving the financial needs of commercial airline pilots. Simply put – we stay current on the financial programs available to pilots and understand the specific circumstances pilots face, which empowers us to be an exceptional and knowledgeable advisor to those we serve. For many of them, our relationship spans multiple generations, and our low turnover in clientele is indicative of the level of service and commitment we have to those we serve.

Behind the McMartin name is over 60 years of planning experience in the airline industry. McMartin & Monson, previously named The McMartin Group, has been providing financial advising services for commercial airline pilots since 1953. The group was created by William S. McMartin, who spent the better part of his career serving the pilots of Northwest Airlines. M. Steven McMartin (learn more about Steve) joined his father as a partner in 1984 and went to work serving the Alaska Airlines pilot group.

Upon Bill’s retirement in November of 1996, Steve took on the responsibility of his father’s practice.  It was Steve’s vision to continue his father’s legacy and advance the practice. Dedicated to continual improvement, in 2010 Steve expanded his financial planning services by partnering with The Monson Group to add value to his clients and eventually become the successor in continuing the McMartin legacy as "McMartin & Monson."
